An artist is spreading joy in her community with a miniature outdoor art gallery

(CNN) — An artist yearning to help people connect during the coronavirus pandemic has created a miniature art gallery that invites visitors to keep the art.

In December, Stacy Milrany put up a white wooden box that held an unexpected treasure in front of her home, nestled in Seattle’s Queen Anne neighborhood.

Inside the box was a mini art gallery, complete with small shelves and easels that hold artworks. She called it the Little Free Art Gallery, inspired by the nonprofit organization Little Free Library which makes book-sharing boxes.

“During this pandemic, everybody has been trying to find ways to bring more light to each other, to bring some hope, to create more fun, especially through creative ways to connect with each other when we’ve been physically cut off,” Milrany told CNN.

When you’re potentially the greatest tennis player the world has ever seen, it stands to reason that you can do whatever you feel like doing in your spare time. Serena Williams epitomizes this adage: within the last couple of years, the athletic phenomenon has launched a limited-edition luggage collection, welcomed a baby daughter with her husband Alexis Ohanian, the former CEO of Reddit, and completed the construction of a new home in Miami. In a house tour for Architectural Digest, Williams revealed this week that instead of a living room, her new home features a central art gallery for some of her favorite pieces.

‘Largest gift’ funds scholarships, adds art gallery at Winona State University

A week after Saint Mary’s University announced receipt of a $5 million gift, Winona State University announced its largest-ever estate gift, a bequeathal of more than $5.2 million from the estate of Maynard “Mo” Weber.

Weber, a 1950 graduate of WSU, died in his home in Luray, Va., on July 26, 2019.

“I’d rather have Mo,” said WSU President Scott R. Olson. “He was a wonderful guy, an unbelievable character.”

He was also, Olson said, one of WSU’s biggest supporters, and certainly the biggest on the East Coast. In the past, Weber had made several donations to WSU. Some were financial, and others were donations of artwork produced by Weber’s father, Max Weber, whose cubist paintings hang in museums such as New York’s Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian Museum of Art in Washington, D.C.
