Art & Music: The Portable Universe
Mon, 04/11/2022 – 09:49
LACMA’s eclectic and cutting-edge Art & Music series, winner of the ASCAP & Chamber Music America Award for Adventurous Programming of Contemporary Music, presents world-renowned performers and composers celebrating the museum’s exhibitions and permanent collection.
Colombian musician Luis Fernando Franco Duque will play music with ancient Colombian ocarinas in the galleries of The Portable Universe, a groundbreaking exhibition showcasing the materiality and knowledge of ancient Colombian cultures from an Indigenous point of view. This program is bilingual in Spanish and English.
Luis Fernando Franco Duque is a composer, performer, researcher and music producer from Colombia. His oeuvre includes symphonic works, music for the stage (cinema, dance, and contemporary theater) as well as audiovisual content, books, and projects for children. For more than 25 years he has developed research on ceramic aerophonic instruments (flutes, ocarinas, and whistles) from ancient Colombian cultures such as the Tairona, Zenú, and Malibu (9th–15th century), by taking a contemporary Indigenous perspective of the musical and spiritual universe. He currently participates in Musé, an intercultural music education program with communities of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, and is working on sound installations for the Museo del Oro, Banco de la República.
Advance tickets are required for all visitors, including members, to join this in-gallery program taking place during museum hours. This event will be standing only.
